  • Best No Nonsense Writing App!

I’ve been able to write better and more consistently with this app’s design, due to its no-distractions look and effortless exporting feature. It helps me focus more on the actual words I’m writing rather than the format.

I love Ulysses! It gives me suggestions for what to put if my writing is too casual (which really helps when writing professional works), helps with length of sentences, and you can add pictures and notes to any work! It has really helped me the past three years I've used it, and every penny I put in is worth it.
  • Where's my Pro version I paid for..?

I paid money for Ulysses pro and it wasn't cheap... now i see it's been cancelled, and there's only a subscription, WHICH I WILL NOT DO (PERIOD). Very disappointed that this app is ultimately doomed to the trash can, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm upset that good money's been thrown out the window because this developer is wanting a cash flow monthly while basically only providing a border for a simple note taking app. DO NOT GIVE ON TO SUBSCRIPTIONS... thievery en-masse.
  • Good app, bad grammar checker

I’m confused as to why Ulysses’s grammar checker is clearly designed for 1850s college essays. On the app’s page in the app store it’s marketed as an app for writing novels — well, writing anything, but especially novels. Yet the grammar checker is designed to oppose virtually every rule of storytelling. Ulysses itself is fine but the grammar checker has got to be the absolute worst grammar checker I’ve ever used. “These punctuation marks differ from each other. Use only one if you are ending a sentence.” Uh, yeah, ? and ! differ, but ?!, also known as an interrobang, is an immensely common punctuation used to express loud questioning, such as someone angrily asking a question or panicking over forgetting something. My sentence: “… through to her back …” The grammar checker: “‘to’ seems less likely than ‘the.’” Through the her back? WHAT?! In what universe is that even anything?! It’s literally even argued with itself. I wrote “was” and it said it should be “were” so I changed it to “were” and it decided it should be “was.” And several times it’s said “this language is informal” as if that’s a bad thing in a story. You WANT stories to be informal. It’s a huge part of how “show don’t tell” is possible. Again, Ulysses itself is fine, my only complaints about Ulysses itself are that I can’t find a way to see how much I’ve written per chapter as opposed to the whole book altogether, and colored text might be nice every once in a while. The colored text thing isn’t necessary, just something that would be neat. The stats thing bums me out a bit though, as I have absolutely no way of knowing how long my chapters are. For all I know, Chapter One is an entire novella long and Chapter Two is like 3 pages. I have no way of knowing, short of copying a chapter into Pages, which I shouldn’t need to do. Anyways other than that Ulysses is pretty solid, basically just like Notes but with modern export functionality that Notes still doesn’t have for some reason. But man, the grammar checker… Yikes. I really want it to be good but it’s just frustrating, essentially an insult to the app.

I love this app but the problem is you have to convert it to PDF to share it with anything and it reformats it and makes more work.
  • Unable to cancel before 7-day trial is up

I downloaded the app but to use it even for the free seven days, I had to agree to pay $39+ per year, except there’s no way to stop this. I’ve gone to the Apple Store and deleted the app, but it looks like I’ll have to pay for it regardless. Not cool. There must be a way to stop the payment. The app does not do what I want it to do.

I love this app as it provides all of the needs as a writer to have in a simple format. I can keep research notes and all support material handy when composing the text.

This is for pay. Misleading. Says “you can look but not touch” in setup.
