Use it frequently in office visits when patients are referred for various cardiovascular disease processes. Helps with CVD tia stratification as well.

  • Don’t waste your money- they will junk it in 5 years

I bought the butterfly iq in 2020, for $2300. Image quality was not great so I didn’t use it that often for clinical purposes , but it was nice to have whenever I needed it, or so I thought. However, after 5 years, Butterfly has decided to discontinue support for the older model completely!! I saw the trade-in option and thought great, but it turns out that I still have to pay an additional $2K even after trading it in?? It’s crazy to spend that much money ($2K + $200 yearly subscription for imaging features) and end up with a piece of junk every 5 years, at which time they will ask you for $2-4K all over again! The only thing I’m thankful for is that when I recommended Butterfly purchases for our department budget, they deferred it for next year due to more immediate needs-obviously I will no longer recommend this probe and I would have been so embarrassed to spend department money on expensive lemons. Just shocked at their sleazy business practices and how they treat early adopters.
  • Portable and practical point of care ultrasound

I use the Butterfly each week when seeing patients. It has greatly improved my ability to diagnose and treat patients. The ability to use one probe for cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, obstetric and vascular studies is extremely helpful. While it doesn’t have the clarity of much more expensive cart based ultrasound systems, I have found that it is sufficient in most situations to confirm or refute a diagnosis. It is portable and readily accessible. I carry it with me whenever I see patients. I also greatly value the ability to save and review studies with other colleagues who are using the Butterfly platform. I have used it to teach many doctors and to learn from many others. I am a pediatric cardiologist who works in a remote setting and I have come to rely on the Butterfly every week.

Have used for many years now. Latest model is great for cardiac and small parts as well. Perfect for bedside, rural, home visits. I use for teaching and for medical missions around the world.
  • New update only works for ios17- bricks lightning probe

iPad 5th gen doesn’t support ios17 and newest app update this month requires ios17. Probes with Lightning connector have almost been entirely bricked by this planned obsolescence as devices with lightning ports can’t handle the iOS required to run the app after this required update to the app.

I have been using the Butterfly IQ since it’s been available. It has become an integral part of my practice, both inside the office and the hospital. The image quality and preset features combined with its potential is amazing. His little yet, powerful and multifunction ultrasound has improved my practice more than any other single device

If you want bulky, grainy artifacts and unclear definition then this is a great ultrasound for your clinic. By far the worse I’ve ever used.
  • Disappointed with end of support

I have enjoyed having the Butterfly IQ probe as an early adopter. I have the original probe in pristine condition that works flawlessly. I am quite disappointed with the emails I have received stating that the unit will no longer be supported in the app and I will essentially have a worthless US probe. The offers for a mild discounted price of the newest iteration does not seem attractive. I am not interested in spending thousands of more dollars only to receive these emails agin in the future when support ends for the IQ 3. Come 12/31/25, my support for Butterfly IQ will end as well.
