  • The Dream of a Subscription Text Editor

    3
    By Seattle Rex
Coming from the days where one purchased applications, and purchased subsequent updates outright, always have I longed for a subscription text editor. One that I would purchase repeatedly, regardless of whether or not it had been upgraded, and regardless of whether or not those upgrades applied to me. Well, after many agonizing years, that dream is now a reality. If any application genre screamed out to be a subscription, it is the text editor, what with all of the streaming data they have to provide to the user on a monthly basis. Also, unlike the hordes of starving developers that came before them, these guys finally realized that they could produce a better product if only they could eat every day, while maintaining a roof over their head. This was clearly not possible under the previous scheme, where a product was paid for without further obligation by the customer a/k/a “The Dark Days of Reason”. Instead of laboring under these gulag-esque conditions, the developers of Textastic have finally corrected one of the most grievous injustices since World War Two: the ruthless exploitation of the mobile software developer by the greedy, irrational, demanding customers who constantly demand the the devs fix glaring bugs, while not paying one red scent extra for their fixing. Instead of paying more the buggier an app was, selfish consumers wanted to pay the same price for buggy apps that they paid for more stable apps. This is an abomination that Textastic had the integrity, nay, courage to rectify. In my humble opinion, they have created a dream that you too can live. Go ahead. Push that button in the upper-right corner. Only through your support, will this economic model survive, and relegate to the history books that most heinous of paradigms known as “ownership”. In the future, you will own nothing and be happy. You do not have to wait, though. The future is here today, if only you would click that button. Set yourself free. Do it now.

I've tried all code editors for iPad and Textastic is definitely the best. I use the app to update my website from my iPad Pro. With web preview and SFTP built in, it's almost easier than on my MacBook. Keep up the great work!
  • How is it 4.8 stars?

How is this app 4.8 stars? I can’t even make a file without getting an ad for the premium version. Why? Make it better before I try this again.
  • Waste of time

Can’t even view a file without paying for it. Wish they were upfront about that on the description. There are literally no free features.
  • Fantastic!

Great experience with this app, just wish it would be easier to create a .lua script on mobile without this app, but for free 😃 Still, did not expect such easiness! Does it function offline? Thanks!

Can’t work on scripts that I’ve worked on my laptop. When I try to open external scripts, won’t allow me to open. Needs to be improved in order for my payment’s worth.
  • I genuinely GENUINELY hate this app.

I’ve tried installing texture packs into the Delta emulator, but because the premium subscription exists, I can’t even use this app ANYMORE! I don’t even think there’s a free trial in this app! my mom doesn’t even want me subscribing to this, what’s the point of adding a paywall! Fix your app!
  • Not worth the price

Yes, it’s a great editor, simple - easy to use and I like the live preview. HOWEVER, as old as this IDE is it should have a formatter. It doesn’t predict code very will either. It’s missing prediction in CSS and JS. Also, why not a boiler plate html starter code? Here’s the bad… All my code files just disappeared. I lost all my files. I since have deleted the app and will be looking for something else to play with…
